My mother just passed away, very recently. She and my father owned a local shop in Houghton Regis offering people value for money, integrity, honesty, and a high quality service which the community valued at the exceptionally low price they charged. Sadly the same cannot be said for the Dunstable Branch of Kings Fire Ltd.
My father had P50 fire extinguishers in his shop which were well maintained, and still in date, and could be serviced by competent persons within the shop. My mother being the trusting and diligent person (from the notes I have found in her diary) asked KFltd to assess the fire safety needs of the shop. Kings Fire Ltd of Dunstable supplied an assessment to remove the in date and valid Article 13 fire safety P50 extinguishers with metal ones which require servicing each year, by the very company whom installed them. My mother appears to have trusted this information as she purchased the extinguishers in 2023 based on the information KFLtd provided.
I got a call from the manager 2 days ago, initially offering a condolence of our loss, but then went on to explain that the servicing on the extinguishers were due, and alarmingly smugly explained that they had removed the P50s, and replaced them with ones which needed servicing each year, by them.
Darren, went on to explain, in a very jovial and conceited manner, that it wouldn't be advisable to service them ourselves as they installed the one which couldn't be serviced by anyone. Though he did go on to say, that anyone could just write on the label, but he wouldn't recommend that as they are the professionals.
Irked, I called the fire brigade whom have provided accurate information regarding the fire extinguishers they have installed at great expense to my mother, and based on the cost over the next 5 years, my mother could have purchased new P50s and had change left over as those extinguishers last 10 years are more environmentally friendly.
So I emailed the office at Kings Fire and explained this, and asked them to provide a servicing quotation for the next five years (which is how long the extinguishers they have provided my late mother last), sadly (at the time of writing the original opinion) there had been no reply, but did look in my junk mail in the morning to see a reply with servicing costs of £75 per year. Not surprisingly Darren has replied with information, and inaccurate accusations from his perspective to justify the information provided to my mother and myself. I have replied to it in disagreement. But have edited this evaluation to reflect the recent email exchange.
If you want to be treated like my parents looked after their customers the 60 years they were in business, then in my experience with KF ltd, has not been satisfactory.

The service of our extinguishers was undertaken in a professional manner and the information provided was clear a concise, informing us why and to what relevant standard they are installed and serviced to (BS5306).
We always tender for service engineers and Kings Fire always comes in with a fair competitive price, and delivers a far superior service than we have received from other companies in the past.

Kings Fire earn their reputation through professionalism. While their prices are competitive, it's the value that you get out of the service from their company. Our engineer was very knowledgeable and helpful in giving advice and very personable throughout the service and never felt like I was being price gouged.
