Their initial survey (carried out in the pouring rain) was thorough and critical to us when submitting the Application for a Flood Resistance grant from Gloucestershire County Council/DEFRA.

Importantly, FPS respond swiftly and communicate well, answering questions and liaising with the local government departments proactively.

Property Flood Resilience (PFR) Grant Survey. Required in order to apply for an up to £5k DEFRA grant. DEFRA allow up to £800 for a survey (or £500, depending where you go for your information). Site survey was not done by a qualified flood engineer but one did approve the report. Report explained the nature of the flood risk (already known), general advice on flood resilience and resistance measures (all well known) and some very basic options that might be useful for my property (described as potential considerations) plus a detailed list of how water could enter my property (windows, doors etc). Unfortunately, the report did not provide what was required or expected. The only measure that has a realistic chance of keeping the water out of my property (slide in flood barriers) was not considered. That would require a comprehensive study and a fee of around £5k plus travel expenses. So £4200 more than DEFRA allow and more than the cost of the work. Request to reconsider aspects of the report to make it fit for purpose (tailor for PFR Grant application) refused. Refund request denied. Also, to further consider my complaint would be charged at a consultancy fee rate. On the plus side, I was kept informed about delays in delivering the report and the report itself was well presented. Probably a capable flood risk specialist but don’t expect a PFR Grant survey to be of much use. Not if you already know anything about the flood risk in your area or have done some research into flood resistance and resilience yourself.

FPS were able to work to our schedule and fit in an appointment at short notice. There was great communication from the office staff keeping us informed of any changes or requirements before the site visit.

The site survey was very thorough and Simon very knowledgeable, and quite happy to answer all questions. The provided report was extensive wit usable information and recommendations. I will use FPS in the future and happily recommend them to all of my clients.
