When we moved into our home in the late 1990s, we fitted 36 oz Penthouse carpets in all the main rooms and were very pleased with the quality and durability. When we re-decorated our lounge 2 years ago, we purchased a Springtime Portland 50oz carpet in the full expectation it would be even more hard wearing than the one we were replacing. Within 2 WEEKS, it began to show discernible wear patches which were commented on by family and friends. We hoped the carpet over time would settle down. However, after 12 months the same initial wear patches were even more visible. We thus contacted the retailer who in turn contacted Penthouse. An independent reviewer came out to inspect the carpet and concluded there was nothing wrong with the pile but that the patches were due to wear! After 2 years, we cannot stand the awful effect these very visible patches have. Thus, even though we paid what for us was a large amount, we are replacing the carpet and will be looking at any manufacturer other than Penthouse! Very disappointing!

We re-carpeted our whole 3 bedroom flat with the Crofter carpet in July 2022 and it is now February 2023 and it is still shedding vast amounts of fibres every time it is hoovered. The hoover keeps clogging with the fluff and needs to be emptied multiple times when hoovering each room. At this rate I can’t see the carpet lasting the 14 years that its predecessor did.

We had 100 square metres of Shoreline Twist 50oz carpet fitted to our hall, stairs, landing, bedroom, lounge and dining room in December 2017. Having had twist pile carpets in our houses for over 40 years we were most concerned when the new carpet was still shedding excessive amounts of fluff, even after one year. Our vacuum cleaner needing emptying after every 10-12 square metres.
A representative of the company visited and said that if the shedding was still occurring at the end of January 2019, he would arrange for an independent inspector to visit.
As the shedding continued, an independent inspector did attend. He was appointed by and paid for by Penthouse. His report was that "shedding is a normal characteristic of a cut pile carpet".
In our experience, one gets shedding for a couple of months, not for 15 months, with no sign of any reduction in its amount. Our 50 oz carpet is rapidly becoming 40 oz!!

Regretfully I purchased a carpet in August this year from Penthouse Carpets via a local and well trusted flooring company where I live. My comments are, as you will see very similar to that of a previous reviewer Mr. Dave Wright. I to purchased a 50oz. carpet ( heavy duty ). I to within 2/3 weeks noticed unsightly flatenning patches which were commented on by friends. I contacted my flooring company who in turn contacted Penthouse. An ' independant' consultant ( contracted by and paid by Penthouse ) came out and inspected my carpet and to my amazement found nothing wrong. Will I use Penthouse again - absolutely not.

My carpet was laid down 6 weeks ago the smell is horrendous i have to keep all doors and windows open at all times my Asthma is very bad also i have not felt well since it was put down.Tracking also very bad .Shedding like other reviews is terrible the carpet wont last long .Approached the company they dont want to know not a good company in my opinion never ever buy off this company again. The response i had on here was wrong.If you looked there are emails to your company explaining the problems i been having your company did not want to know.I did my review after your response please get your facts straight before responding to my review . By the way update over 2 months since carpet fitted people still say when they come to my home they can smell a chemical smell . 10 weeks after complaint Inspector been no testing done but this is a HEALTH issue.
Since laid health problems Latest update i am having this carpet taken up at my own Expense and having new floor laid down at my own Expense it as been down 4 months health comes first.This company works against you not with you.BE WARY .

Question carpet triggering asthma

Competence of inspector to give opinion on what is a health matter - no expertise on asthma and its environmental triggers

Only laboratory analysis can determine what carpet is releasing into the air but that has not been done

In the absence of objective analysis of carpet it is not possible to determine what is happening Your company as not had carpet analysis so can you please give me the name of the labs you use i will pay for analysis to be done.Company not talking to me anymore is that the sign of a good company of course not. There is a lot more to say this company wont answer any emails from me what does that tell you it is not finished PENTHOUSE CARPETS.

Poor quality control and customer service. We paid for top of the range but got high tufts and "pipe reversal" so it looks like a massive water stain. Apparently pile reversal is tough luck, one of those things blah blah but there no reference to pile reversal on web site and no come back so stuck with what we have.
Customer service takes ages to react, Sales Director has no control of his resellers and hides behind "phenomenon" that is pile reversal and MD passes the buck.

Got their Esprit Nouveau throughout the house at a cost of £5k. Son nicked over some water and we dabbed it up which caused the carpet to lighten and go fluffy. I contracted them and got an email confirming that shouldn’t happen. They sent round an independent inspector and we redid the dabbing with water on an off-cut showing the same thing happen. He wrote a report saying he confirmed the issue but it isn’t a manufacturing defect because it happened due to ‘localised conditions’. Therefore penthouse take no responsibility, despite having confirmed we should be able to dab up water without damage.

So they will only consider obvious defects such as loose backing etc, but won’t consider the fact maybe there’s a problem with their dying process or twisting process.

I have bought two Penthouse carpets for bedrooms and I have been absolutely delighted both in terms of wear and quality. I now plan to have Penthouse carpets throughout my home. I would definitely recommend a Penthouse carpet to anyone!
