I filed a complaint with the BVRLA after a very negative experience with a rental company in Scotland. Even though I provided clear evidence — including being left stranded with a child, being unable to continue our planned trip to the Isle of Skye, missing a prepaid hotel booking, and having to cover extra transport and accommodation expenses — the association simply sided with the rental company without fairly addressing the harm I suffered.

In theory, the BVRLA exists to mediate and protect consumers, but in practice my case shows that their priority is to defend member companies rather than customers. They completely disregarded the financial and personal consequences I experienced. A very disappointing and frustrating experience — I expected impartiality and protection, but instead felt ignored.

I agree with all the negative reviews, why even are you a ADR body? If you take into all of the facts and evidence in front of you?

Better of not being one

Guys you need to hold these companies accountable do what you need to do to make sure they answer for their actions.

The BVRLA and absolute joke. They don't care if they were mislead by a company. They referred to rules but they shared the result of their 'investigation' earlier with the company I have complained about ,than me. I have received 32 hours later than the company that I have complained about. Welcome in the BVRLA world. They used a fake information to investigate. But they didn't care about it when I told them this is not true that they are received. They are just do Not care.
Will you trust someone who does not care the truth?!

Exactly as it says on the tin, self regulating body only interested in protecting their own. I only wish I could share on here the exchange I had with them, you couldn't make it up. Undisclosed commission on car loans is sorted, commission on mis-selling insurance no doubt will be next, fingers crossed. Keep all your paperwork, hopefully you will get your day eventually. Do not waste your time here.

Not even worthy of 1 star! As all the other reviews state - don't even bother! BVRLA failed to investigate my complaint properly and with any neutrality. They are a biased industry funded body and their "investigations" reflect that.

I have since got my money back anyway, through a credit card recharge. The industry is in urgent need of reform and regulation to halt the fraudulent activity within the sector. BVRLA are not the solution and will waste your time with their unprofessional and inadequate investigations- go straight to your credit card and use charge back or section 75 as this biased industry body will not help, only hinder!

If I could give less than 1* I would!

Edit for response to BVRLA response: your comments are untrue. You did not investigate impartially and take comments from your members at face value whilst failing to even look at independent evidence. This is backed up by the fact that when my credit card took an impartial review they sided with me and clawed back all the money your member has taken from me fraudulently.

Don’t waste your time. They allowed AVIS to lie to them and believed everything they said when I was able to evidence the lie. They are obviously in cahoots with the rental company’s and having their accreditation is nothing more than a fancy badge that means nothing.

Complete waste of time. The enterprise provided false information and BVRLA did not even sought to verify it with me and simply ruled in favour of the enterprise. Still trying to get the case reopened but have been ignoring my emails
