I had a very disappointing experience with Brightside Insurance this summer. I was with them for only two weeks, during which I was charged an extremely high amount. When I decided to cancel early and switch to another provider, I was assured that I’d receive a refund for the unused period. However, once the refund was given back, a week later they reverted the amount from my account without authorization. I’ve tried reaching out to their customer service repeatedly, but they’ve been unresponsive, offering no help in resolving the issue. It feels like a complete scam. Based on my experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid Brightside Insurance. They’re unreliable and seem more interested in taking your money than providing good service.

AVOID!! After taking out Public liability through Brightside, have to say were ok whilst paying monthly. The shock was when cancelling. We were told £75 for cancellation, this was ok (even through we did still think this was a high cancelation fee ourselves as we have paid monthly for 2 and a half years and had no claims). Only to then be hit with a £426 bill to be paid in 7 days or will be passed onto their debt collectors. We were then informed this is a loan which was not made clear to us from the beginning and we would not have taken out if we knew! When taking out this policy we were never advised of this, also not advised that it was 48% APR - RIP OFF. Also never given the advice or option of better ways for us to pay, when brought up to the staff we were just told that this was in the small print. They don't care, lacking communication and advice. Please avoid!

Cancelled my policy with this company due to receiving rude customer service on the phone from one of their agents, they accepted their fault and agreed that the agent was rude and should not have hung up the phone on me, the complaint was upheld. I cancelled my policy with them, they then billed me another month of insurance and are now threatening with legal action for insurance which I did not have with them. Told them that I wanted to cancel but they left the policy active for another month on purpose to try and con more money out of me, over £400 for an extra month of insurance. They don’t try and help you on the phones either, they fob you off constantly when you try and resolve the issue with them. Avoid like the plague.

I never had to use them to make a claim so I can't really comment on their efficiency in that respect but I would advise avoiding them as it will cost you well over half of one monthly payment to cancel (when they inevitably increase your premium at renewal), without any real explanation as to why. Customer services seem pretty clueless and unbothered. There are likely plenty of other insurance companies that will offer a far better service.

Having been put on hold 3 times I was eventually put through to a van specialist. He was at home with kids at half term, couldn’t hear because of background noise. I made a request to drive my van abroad, he said he would make a request, I called each day but ‘no news from underwriter’, for 10 days!
Got through to another representative who was rude and cocky and insisted on selling me a months cover from when I called. I saif, you are asking me to pay for cover I didn’t have, can we start if from today instead of 10 days ago, and he aggressively said we won’t be e to cover you then, but I will give you half price on the premium I have just quoted.
This operation is amateur, slack, sloppy and then pushy! Thank goodness I didn’t need to claim, and I will never use again.

Others are correct, this insurance company seems to be out for quick cash. For those who have had good experiences, I'm so happy for you, you're one of the lucky ones ?
Emailed to cancel policy, policy was renewed by mistake, now in a fun game of "When am I getting the money back?". Not funny when it's a few hundred pounds. Staff are pretty incompetent and company is a poor excuse for a broker. Sort yourselves out guys.

UPDATE: Bank had to compensate and chase Brightside. Another charge for £50 was demanded, debt collectors were involved from Brightside. Luckily, ONE decent employee went through the process with us to make a formal complaint. This then lead to everything being dropped and Brightside having to pay the bank. Avoid if you can. Hope this helps all others going through the same hassle.

Awful Experience.
My renewal quote came in at twice last year's
price, but for simplicity I agreed to pay. After receiving the policy documents I noticed they had made an error missing off one of my key requirements. I raised this within the 14 day cancellation period, but it took them a further two weeks to confirm the policy was not valid. This gave me no option except to cancel the policy and now they are charging me £125 to cancel the policy even though the error was entirely theirs.
Absolutely awful service and I would not recommend this Company to anyone.

Do not use. I was ill in hospital. Car insurance auto renewed at £278 a month.
I then rang. To cancel has cost me £381.
We are just the brokers she whinged.
I’ve paid more in a couple of months than my 80 year old father has paid insurance for his car for the year.
