I've been trying to transfer funds to my sister's Charles Schwab account using the account details they have given me. It's been sent back three times with no explanation, until they were phoned. We don't accept sterling and there were no account details on the most recent, which there most definitely were. Pathetic.

My experience to date has been overwhelmingly positive as an international account holder. I've been a customer for 10 years now at a guess. Whilst the UK branch has little to offer beyond account opening guidance (in my experience) - the international 24/7 helpline has always been responsive, low wait times when calling up ad-hoc and usually very knowledgeable and empowered customer service staff that have turned around my account enquiries swiftly and diligently. Thumbs up from me!

Possibly the broker with the worst possible set up to get your money out if you are a UK client. Filled in a 4 page form, was asked to call a NON toll-free number in the us to confirm what I had already written on my form. Ended up 51 minutes on the phone, transferred twice and with a phone bill of 100 GBP. There are brokers out there that do provide a good service to UK clients, have integrity and don't ripp you off. Shame on you!

I have had my Schwab account now for almost 2 year and I cant say i have had very many problems to be honest. When your setting something up for the first time it always takes a bit of time to familiarise yourself with their procedures, paper work, website and anything else that is part of it. I remember it being a bit of a pain to set up bank account transfers and withdrawing funds as well as the initial setup preocedure. There was plenty of form filling and I.D required. Sometimes i didn't always feel the information provided was immediately clear, but once i had spoken to Schwab staff (whom were excellent) and re-read the instructions, setting up became much clearer. We live in a fast paced world where instant set up of almost anything these days is expected immediately. Unfortunately, we still have to display a little patience because it doesn't always happen immediately. I think it took me several days to finally get everything set up properly but once it was everything ran smoothly and has done since. I would recommend Schwab for UK customers. I think their website provides a great deal of data to make good informed trading decisions, its pretty good to navigate (not always..) and has some nice features. I find their customer service excellent.

It is absolutely impossible to reach customer service if you are located in the UK. I tried everything - very frustrating. And please - do not advise to check on the website as in response to my specific question it recommends calling to the customer service. I also tried to get in touch by email as the links to the workshop were not working. The same result - no response at all.
