Customer service people are courteous and try to help. Unfortunately their hands are tied by the company's relationship with the insurance providers they sell.

After promoting an insurance provider (Abacus in this case) and their offering, when you need to actually claim on the policy for legal services you will be force-fed a solicitor (Ark Legal Services) who makes their 1 star reviews (fully worth a read) appear generous within the first interaction.

You will then be left paying for a policy, unable to use a credible lawyer without forking out for them from your own pocket, unable to speak to Abacus and CIA 'unable to do anything' because it's Abacus' policy. Neat.

We've been with CIA Insurance for a couple of years, the trust pilot reviews showed them in a positive light so we thought we were safe using them for our landlord cover. The reality though is that they are the polar opposite of what an insurance company should be about. We took out full landlord cover with legal protection, damage to property, rent retrieval, job lot. The tenant we had completely wrecked the house and defaulted on paying rent for the last 5 months that she was there. Without getting into all the details, CIA have refused to cover a single thing that we paid cover for stating that they have less than a 50% chance of getting anything back from the tenant in court. We have absolutely no chance of recourse and are left with a house that is close to derelict. Please do not use this company, they are VERY disingenuous! I also have to say that I'm a little disappointed in trust pilot, they have totally failed on this occasion.

Stay well away folks, I took a policy out through a comparison site and I can assure you all that the negative reviews on here are a true reflection with how you will be dealt with by this company. I applied for a refund within the 14 day cooling off period and they have taken from me upto 80% of the payment with the excuse of cancellation fee and abbacas fees! Scammers.

Terrible company, don't bother. The kicker is the rebuild value, if you make a claim you will likely be under insured as the onus of finding the rebuild value is in you. If you make a claim they all of a sudden know what the build value is and it'll be more then what you put down. Too many ways for them to weasel their way out.

Landlord insurance: they claim that you get £ 50 000 of public liability cover but when you want some advice on what is insured your are passed from pillar to post and never speak to a qualified solicitor, only to "legal advisors" who know very little and basically fob you off. CIA are happy to take your money and deliver very little.

Not a good service, I had to get 3 quotes for repair they agreed to one quote but wouldn't send any money until I had commissioned the company to do the work and even then only sent an interim payment that was paid late I had to phone and chase the the payment same with the final balance it's late and I've made 4 calls asking why, they said it was a query at their end .I do not recommend this company ,oh and they even contacted the company that id asked to do the repair as if I was lieing about it I felt like a criminal.
Terrible experience

Beware of underinsurance penalty. Whilst renewing a landlord policy I was told that the insured amount meant nothing if the company later decided the rebuild cost exceeded the rebuild cost they had set and updated. This could result in a huge deficit. E.g. if you insured a property for £250,000 and the rebuild cost was later assessed to be £275.000 you would be underinsured by 10%. They would then reduce your insured amount to £225,000. This would leave you with a deficit of £50,000. When I meticulously checked their online policy there was no mention of this. You are only informed if you purchase by phone. Other companies do not impose this penalty - they honour the insured amount. After 10 years I have left CIA. During discussions with them I have found them to be duplicitous. Best avoided.

NEVER BEATEN ON PRICE, Rubbish, I found a quote £100 cheaper and so I cancelled my policy during the cooling off period and before my policy had even started and yet Cia charged me £70. I had been a customer for over 10 years. So much for loyalty.
