Poor Product Quality and Lack of Accountability – Avoid Domestic & General!

I was provided with a replacement washer dryer from Domestic & General in April 2024, after they failed to repair my insured washing machine. I even paid £185 towards the new machine, expecting it to be of high quality. Yet, within just five months, the washer dryer developed a serious fault – a leak caused by a hole in the inner tub. This defect also caused water damage to various items in my garage.

When I contacted Domestic & General, I was met with a complete lack of accountability. Instead of taking responsibility as the supplier and providing a replacement, they tried to push the blame onto the manufacturer, LG. This is a clear violation of consumer rights, as the responsibility lies with the retailer when a product is not of satisfactory quality.

Avoid Domestic & General if you expect any kind of decent service or quality assurance. Their refusal to address the issue properly has been nothing short of frustrating. They do not stand by the products they supply, even when they are faulty from the start.

Absolute joke, Reported a broken induction hob 10/9/24. Ive had numerous texts from a number of repair agents, some advising me that 'parts have been ordered' which is quite remarkable as no one has even been to look at this hob. Tomorrows repair date cancelled this morning with a new date of 4/10/24. With service like this their booking agent wanted to know why I only have one appliance covered!!
Do not waste your money we have paid over £500 over a number of years for this, just take out the manufacturers extended warranties.

Ive had a policy with D&G for many years and this week I have attempted to claim for a failed heater in my dishwasher. The claims team said that they can not honour my claim without proof of purchase which I no longer have. Despite numerous emails they just came back with a one line email response stating the same message.

WORD OF WARNING. If you have a policy with D&G and you think you are covered read the small print because if you haven't got proof of purchase they will not honour your policy. Opened a dispute with the bank to try and reclaim 4 years of payments for products I had no hope of claiming against.

I wouldn’t bother with this company. The have written my machine off and want to give me a lesser machine. Now I have to wait another week for them to respond to my complaint making its 7 week with no washing machine. Happy to take your money but will not provide a “like for like” machine. You can have a like for like machine if you want to pay an extra £85 because the brand is different. They currently do not have a like for like in my current Hotpoint range.

Does Not worth any star. Domestics and genaral are happy when taking off monies out of your pocket. For 3 years we have been under this policy and when claim comes, No one will respond and they will keep you in waiting for this engineers that would not turn up or would not come on you specific time that you have instructed them. We are considering to cancel all our policy under D&G . Avoid this! No to scammers!

After paying insurance on 3 appliances for 8 years I had cause to get my TV repaired.

They didn’t remind me to remove the bracket - they didn’t even tell me that the TV would be taken away. (I was told that they were just going to assess whether it was to repair or replaced).

The company they used - Sutton TV Repairs - took the TV away with the bracket attached because the engineer couldn’t be bothered to wait for me to remove it but he returned it with the bracket in pieces and a separate bag of nuts and bolts. The engineer was rude and very unhelpful.

Upon trying to reattach the bracket I found that the TV had been put back together without one of the internal nuts so now it’s impossible to reattach the bracket at all.

The company reps are just as rude and unhelpful as the engineer.

D&G have now left it up to me to sort out - probably because, as a result of the terrible service I’ve received, I have cancelled my policies.

And I still have a TV that I can’t put back on the wall and therefore can’t watch.

Upon writing this I have found the reviews for these insurers to be pretty poor which probably explains why they would use Sutton TV Repair carry out their repairs.

Their reviews are even worse.

I totally agree with the other reviews domestic & general are a complete joke. Five weeks without my dishwasher twice the engineer turned up needed a part next time needed another part then he went sick,& sick again . never again will I insure anything with them all my appliances are insured with them . But we are now considering cancelling them all. Also all the days I’ve taken off work waiting for this engineer, without pay , is bad enough but still no working dishwasher, disgusting service I’ve probably bought 4 new dishwashers in the time I’ve been paying insurance on this one. I’m waiting to see if I’m offered compensation or free 3 months insurance!!! Or some kind of apology so far we are just being fobbed off. Don’t insure with these ever don’t waste your time & money go somewhere else.

I give 1 star because I cannot give 0. This business is a torchure to general public. They sweet talk you into buying a policy for your appliance and that the only team in this company that works. They will treat you as a tennis ball who has to keep waiting on calls, get transferred from one department to another and never get an answer. Please don't waste your precious money on buying policy. There is NO peace of mind whatsoever..
