I have been insured by this company for 3 years for my female cockatiel, Loki. On Wednesday morning, she had unfortunately passed away. I contacted Exotic Direct on their online Web form at midnight last night - had an email within 10 hours with condolences, saying my policy and direct debit were cancelled with immediate effect. No phone calls, no forms to fill in, no more emails and no faffing about chasing. At this difficult time, that's highly appreciated. If I ever decide to get a pet that needs exotic cover again, I'll be back.

I recently had to make a claim for my parrot who had to go into the vets with an illness. Firstly, I’d never made a claim before and so I was abit clueless with what to do. I called up and the lady I spoke to on the phone (I can’t remember her name unfortunately) was so helpful, kind and caring. I explained I didn’t know what I was doing and she replied with compassion and understanding and helped answer the questions I had - how to make a claim basically. She was a normal human being and she cared about the wellness of my parrot aswell as helping, so thank you. The claim itself was easy and straightforward, just a form to complete and send off to the vets. I received an email to confirm my claim was in progress, and approx 2 weeks later I received an email to confirm my claim was accepted and the vets were paid directly. It means a lot to know my insurance company for my loved pets are compassionate and a claim can be made so easily. Thank you to the team at Exotic Direct - I highly recommend.

I have 5 snake and a tortoise and have insurance through exoticdirect for all of them. I have made 2 ammendments to the insurance since I took it out and the staff are very helpful and got the changes made quickly and without a fuss. I recently had to make a claim and the process was so simple. Filled in the form and took it to my vets to fill in their part and send off. I got my claim within 2 weeks. Fantastic service.

Had no problems with this insurance paying out when I've claimed, which I've had to do a fair few times. Insured rodents and birds. My only wish is that they insured for more for some as £1500 for a budgie isn't much at all what with the cost of specialist vet care.

This company is a scam. I phoned while standing in the vets to see if the operation she was about to receive was covered. I was told that they were 99% sure it was but I would have to put a claim in to be 100%. I asked the representative twice and again she said yes. So i went ahead with the surgery. Turns out that there was a clause that didn't cover it and now I am left with a £900 bill that I can not afford. I disputed their decision and they stilll said they won't pay out even after listen to to call where i was told i was covered. They mislead me in to thinking i could go ahead with the operation. They are very quick to tell you to go to the Financial Ombudsman if i am not happy which is very suspicious to me. My liitle budgie made it through her operation but died of complications a week later.

Excellent company, they don't hike the prices up every year in fact my policy has stayed the for the last 8 years. I haven't in fairness made a claim so can't comment as to whether it would go up after you've made claim.

Agreed to insure our ferret for a heart condition. When it was found out he was misdiagnosed you wouldn’t pay a penny towards any of his treatment, not even towards his dental work which directly contradicts your own written clause.
You also didn’t automatically take our baby off our monthly insurance when we made a claim after her death. You continued taking the monthly payments for her insurance until we phoned you to cancel and didn’t refund us for the insurance we paid for 3 months after she died.

Fast claim processing and quick refunds
When I adopted a Czech wolfdog 11 years ago, Exotic Direct were the only company that would agree to insure her. And I have never regretted that forced option.
They have processed all my claims within 2-3 days of receiving completed forms from my vet. Refunds follow quickly within 4-5 days. Not once have they questioned or rejected my claims.
I have also always been able to speak with someone on the phone - although hardly ever needed to since the claim process is so efficient. I trust them and highly recommend them.
Completely baffled by the negative reviews.
