The NUJ recommends or uses this firm for in house seminars about filing for tax for freelances. I spoke to Paul, a partner, yesterday, and he was incredibly helpful. He suggested I contact the charity tax break. They gave me excellent advice, regarding contacting HMRC and I now have an extension for filing for self assessment. I really appreciate that I got to speak to a partner here.

Presumably because we were quite a small account, we were treated in an extremely cavalier fashion by HW Fisher & Company. It would have been much better for us if they had refused our business and by so doing, saved us thousands of pounds.
We were a small and inexperienced operation; HW Fisher & Company, although very well aware of our situation, took no account of this.
I believe their failure to execute a duty of care, including a failure to keep us appraised of our situation regarding Corporation Tax (resulting in a fine of almost £1,000), bordered on negligence.
Although I was extremely disappointed with their professional performance, I agreed to pay - in full - their claim for accountancy "services" at a monthly rate. It was all I could afford to do. This payment was been made on time, in full, as per the agreement.
However, following a change in the FCA rules, HW Fisher were allowed to demand their cash in full within a few working days, which is what they did by immediately issuing a formal notice of claim threatening Court action.
As they pointed out, this would result in additional costs being paid by me.
Fortunately, after dumping HW Fisher as a result of their incompetency, we secured the services of a brilliant firm of accountants who have diligently worked to get us all the overpayment to the Inland Revenue -made while we were taking advice from HW Fisher - repaid.
In my opinion, there are thousands of accountants out there who will help, not hinder, development of a small business enterprise - HW Fisher & Company is not among them.

HW Fisher & Company were chosen on the recommendation of our Company accountants when we were considering entering into insolvent liquidation. Prior to their appointment as liquidators they proposed a capped fee for the work involved. The Company went into liquidation some 4 months later and Fishers, having gained a substantial insight into the workings of the Company, gave no indication the fee could be increased. 5 months later and with no prior warning they requested the fees be increased to more than double the ‘capped fee’ previously quoted. As the RPS did not vote they received the increased fee. I certainly would not recommend HW Fisher & Company to anyone in a similar situation.

An excellent firm of accountants, with commercial accountants giving expert advice. I work closely with Ross Fabian and he is always at the end of the phone as a sounding board to make sure entrepreneurial decisions are made in the best structure and with a view to the future. Highly recommended.
