Absolutely appalled at my new renewal premium. I haven’t made a claim possibly for 20 years maybe 25 or more with a different insurer back in the day gif minimal amount and nationwide find it acceptable to put my premium up £20 a month! I can get extras including boiler cover and higher cover for much less. Utterly disappointed to be treated like this. Will be cancelling as soon as before renewal. Atrocious behaviour from a disgruntled loyal customer.

After 3 years, they doubled my premiums. Many other providers offered me insurance at the usual rates. The premium increased only after I told them I am autistic. Draw your own conclusions...

Again as others have reported, loyalty with Nationwide Home Insurance counts for nothing. My renewal quote rose from £24 a month to £36 a month but I made no claims or amendments, in fact I don’t believe I have ever made a claim on home insurance for over 25 years. A quick search for exactly the same cover with numerous competitors revealed they would do the same cover for the same price I currently pay. I called Nationwide to see if they would match or beat the quotes but I was told this wasn’t possible and the only way to reduce my renewal was to increase my excess - needless to say I have switched to Direct Line and saved around £150 a year over Nationwide.
Shop around don’t accept your renewal if they are trying to take advantage of you - it’s so easy and takes 5 mins.
Go with a company that wants your custom and retain you.

When I took out my contents insurance a year ago, I thought it was great, at around £8 a month premiums, it covered everything I needed for a low cost.

Then came the renewal; they wanted to raise my premiums to over £24 - despite me having made zero claims! Now I'm no Carol Vorderman, but I worked this out to be a 178.4% rise!

I questioned this, and was told that building costs had gone up (mines just contents, NOT buildings), inflation had risen (but only to around 5%) and crime had increased in my area (checked and only shoplifting had risen, burglaries were actually down).

Everyone's heard that insurance companies are often akin to daylight robbery, but come on Nationwide what's going on?! Definitely switching!

Avoid! Following storms my roof leaked. The assessor who arrived in a suit was rude from the minute he entered my home. He blamed the damage on my neighbour’s extension then when he popped his head out the skylight and saw next doors roof was okay he claimed the damage was due to wear and tear and refused my claim. Don’t waste your money.

AVOID THIS SCAMMING COMPANY
We took out a policy with nationwide. Had some jewellery stolen/lost and they are refusing to pay out. Even though the policy should have covered us for it. There reason was “because our previous insurance had made an error, they are aware I didn’t know about it” but they are going to cancel the policy anyway. Disgusting

Got burgled 2 months ago, Nationwide told me i had to sort all the damage repairs out myself and send them the invoices, had a company ring me 6 weeks later telling me they only deal with the glass part of the claim and the glass i got was too expensive, not heard a thing back from anyone else. So here we are, 2 months on and Nationwide haven't paid out a penny.

I'd been a loyal customer with their home insurance for years but after making a claim this year for accidental damage my renewal went up by several hundred pounds - so have now sought to cancel the renewal and seek a cheap alternative - the claims process was easy but there was a cap on the value of the item at £2000 - but anyway we'll see what they say when I inform them I'm cancelling my upcoming renewal
