We visited the restaurant and decided to order the special menu as it was a lunchtime visit.|My friends really enjoyed their meal but I ordered the chilli and although the presentation was really good, I couldn't taste any chilli in the dish.|I have had a reply since from the hotel saying if I visited again and ask for the chilli which they make.mild, to let the server know how hot I would like it. However if on this occasion had the server advised me of this, the problem would not have occurred.|Other than this we had good service, which although attentive was not overbearing.

Visted here for a very good freind's hen party and the staff were fantastic! Stacy and Martin made the occasion very personalised and were incredibly attentive to making the Bride to Be feel special. Service was excellent and food great! A real community feel with the locals too, who were fun and friendly. Highly recommeded!

Had an awful experience at the Market hotel on Saturday. Earlier in the week I booked a table in their dining room for Saturday at 7pm for 4 people.||Saturday afternoon they rang me explaining that there was a private function in the dining room & would we mind eating in the bar area, which we were happy to do. ||We arrived at 7pm, sat at our table & ordered our food. We waited nearly an hour for the food to arrive. ||Three of us ordered steaks & my niece ordered the lasagna, which should have come with garlic bread & seasonal vegetables. What she received was a dish which was about 6” long & the lasagna took up only half of the dish & there were 2 pieces of garlic bread in the other half.||Apart from not being very big the lasagna did not look at all appetising, it looked like it had been reheated. ||I took it to the bar & had to shout at the barman because the music was so loud, I told him that the lasagna was disgusting & there was no way I was going to pay £16 for it. ||The barman took it away & after about 20 minutes the landlord brought my niece a replacement with the excuse that it was a new chef & they had served up the lunchtime lasagna by mistake. By this time the rest of us had finished our meals.||If they had served that at lunchtime I would have still sent it back. It certainly wasn’t fit to eat.||The replacement lasagna was a lot better & it came with chips, salad & garlic bread, but it wasn’t very warm. ||A bit like the steak pie that I had there a few weeks before, my pie was still frozen inside & the replacement wasn’t very warm.||And then to top it all it was karaoke night, which we didn’t know anything about.||So we had karaoke in the bar area where the sound was turned up to ear splitting & ABBA songs belting out in the dining room in competition with the karaoke. ||The noise was deafening & the four of us couldn’t wait to get out of there.||I am assuming that the dining room had already been booked for the private function & if that was the case why did they take my booking?||They should have told me that there was a private function on.||If I had known, I could have booked somewhere else.

Pleasant staff, room tidy and ok. Went a Friday and Saturday night and very very loud music in bar until 1am then at last half an hour afterwards when they were all leaving. DON’T stop here if you want to go to sleep before 1.30am - this was definitely more bar than a hotel.

Only visited for lunch, and found it to be VERY GOOD pub grub. I had the steak and Guinness pie. The pastry was cooked, crisp, and buttery. The chips were excellent and the peas perfectly cooked. Reasonable prices too for the area. I should definitely recommend the Market Hotel for lunch if visiting Alton.

Stayed at the hotel over the weekend for a 2 night stay as visiting family for a birthday celebration. We checked in on Friday, the staff were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, the room was lovely, the bed was so comfy and met all expectations. They have offer nights on every night so we ate Friday night with the Fish Friday offer. The food was perfect and great value for money, we decided to book the Saturday night for the family to enjoy their Steak night which reduces all Steaks from the normal prices by around a third. All the steak were served exactly how we ordered, and every plate was cleared even with the massive portions. The owners gave our table a complimentary bottle of Prosecco as it was a birthday celebration which was a really nice gesture and totally unexpected. We joined in with the Karaoke til late, really busy bar but a great atmosphere and the locals are so friendly as well, the noise from the bar does travel upstairs when they have artists or karaoke on but this is to be expected when staying above a pub over the weekend, it was never excessive and stop promptly at the times the staff had told us. We checked out on the Sunday but stayed for Sunday Roast before travelling back, the Roasts were amazing and I had a mix of all 3 meats for no extra cost, the vegetables, potatoes and gravy are endless which means it excellent value. Thank you Martin, Stacy, Dave and all the staff for making it such a great stay and such a great weekend, we will definitely be staying again soon!

A great place for a gathering !||We visited The Market Hotel for a large family get together. We visited at lunchtime. We were given our own area to use . |There were 21of us ranging from 80s to teens.|Staff pleasant , food and drink reasonably priced, generous portions, food hot and freshly prepared, a good selection of different dishes. |Clean and comfortable.

Visited the restaurant today with friends, who enjoyed their visit and meal, however I ordered the chilli and although the meal was well presented I was extremely disappointed as the plate was cold and I could not taste any chilli.
Could not complain about the value for money as we had the special £10 lunch deal.
The service was attentive, but not overpowering.
