My experience with Warranty First

I purchased a Premier plan with Warranty First because I wanted peace of mind in case of major mechanical failures. Unfortunately, when I recently had a serious issue with my vehicle (flywheel failure, which is listed as covered under my plan), my repair request was declined.

Here’s what happened:

I booked my Mercedes in for a service. During the inspection, the garage identified a fault with the flywheel.

I contacted Warranty First immediately with the quotation. Despite the flywheel being a covered part under my policy, they refused the claim.

The reason given was that the fault was noted “during a routine service,” which is specifically excluded under their terms and conditions.

Even after explaining that the car had been showing symptoms before the service, Warranty First contacted the garage and still chose to decline, saying I hadn’t reported issues when booking in.

So effectively, even though a covered part had failed, they avoided paying out based on a technicality about when and how the fault was discovered.

I feel this undermines the purpose of having a warranty plan. A genuine failure happened on a listed component, yet the claim was rejected. This has left me with a large unexpected repair bill of over £1,100.

I would advise anyone considering Warranty First to read the exclusions extremely carefully, because in practice they may use them to decline even valid claims. My experience has been stressful, disappointing, and not what I expected when paying for cover.

Warranty first has been absolutely amazing when my car needed repairs. They were quick in their response time and also have dealt with my queries with understanding and professionalism. Communication has been regular and they have kept me up to date with the progress on my claim. I had a 3 month warranty provided by a garage when I purchased a car and completely forgot it existed until I had a reminder that it was due to run out. In the meantime I had work done on the car for a repair that was pretty significant in cost. Got in touch with the warranty first team, showed them the evidence of repairs and prior work carried out by the garage and they have kindly reimbursed some of the costs to me.

Can always understandably be a minefield with retrospective works but they were understanding about forgetting the policy was there and were extremely polite and helpful.

Would recommend based on their honesty, integrity and reasonable approach to queries.

Spoke to Lacey on the phone today who was polite and professional. Unfortunately I'm unable to give 5 stars on this occasion as the Agent did not capitalise on her opportunity to explain the VAT situation in better detail, which left the customer to do more research.

I was satisfied with the service in my first interaction with Warranty First and will provide further updates on the service during the claim process.
